Burn-out-13-2400x1350-768x432.jpg

HOSTED BY How to Academy

Science tells us that women experience burnout differently than men. This ground-breaking talk provides a plan to help women minimise stress, manage emotions and live a more joyful life.

This compassionate, practical and optimistic talk will provide you with the science, inspiration and practical solutions to thrive in a stressed-out, unpredictable and anxious-ridden world.

What to expect?

You’ll learn:

• How to actually deal with stress and not just the things that cause you stress, e.g. work, money, family. How to separate it and solve it by completing the stress cycle

• How to overcome emotional exhaustion at home and in the workplace – setting boundaries without the guilt, avoid feeling swallowed up by work or suffocated by commitments

• Why sometimes struggling and things ‘going wrong’ increases learning and creativity

• How listening to your ‘inner critic’ and acknowledging limitations helps diminish them

• Why physical activity, affection and human connection are the key tools to combating stress

• Why a lot of advice on stress is unhelpful to women – the majority of research on stress is based on male participants even though women actually respond very differently to stress

• Why different social pressures and expectations on women add to their overall stress burden and why engaging with your ‘something larger’ will help combat them

• Understanding that it is normal – nearly universal – to want to accept and love your body as it is whilst also wanting to change it to conform to the culturally constructed aspirational ideal

Date:  WED, MARCH 20, 2019, 6:45 PM – 8:00 PM GMT

Location:  Portland Hall

THE POWER OF SHADOW: FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT

Screen Shot 2018-10-25 at 12.34.25.png

HOSTED BY CHARLIE MORLEY & 42 ACRES

The shadow is the part of us made up of all that we hide from others: our shame, our fears, our wounds but also our divine spirit, our blinding beauty and our hidden talents.

The shadow is not bad, in fact it is the source of our power and creativity but until we bring it into the light this power will remain untapped and our full potential unreached.

Using sources from Tibetan Buddhism, western psychology, lucid dream work and mindfulness meditation Charlie Morley will take you on a journey into the dazzling darkness of shadow work.

Using the No mud, No lotus approach any shame or fear of your shadow side is transformed into acceptance and authenticity allowing you to step confidently into your best possible self.

About Charlie Morley

Charlie Morley is a bestselling author and teacher of lucid dreaming & shadow work.

He was “authorised to teach” within the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism by Lama Yeshe Rinpoche in 2008 and has since developed a holistic approach to dream work called Mindfulness of Dream & Sleep and written three books which have been translated into 13 languages.

He’s spoken at Cambridge University,  The Houses of Parliament, is a regular expert panellist for The Guardian and has been named one of The Next Generation of Meditation Teachers.

In 2018 he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship grant to research “mindfulness based PTSD treatment” and continues to teach on retreats for armed forces veterans.

For the past 10 years Charlie has run retreats and workshops in more than 20 countries and continues to teach internationally. He lived at Kagyu Samye Dzong Buddhist Centre in London 7 years and now lives nearby with his wife, Astral Projection teacher Jade Shaw.

LOVE, SEX & RELATIONSHIPS: A WORKSHOP WITH VIVIAN BROUGHTON

  • Centre for Healthy Autonomy (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS
Vivian Broughton Workshop.jpg

HOSTED BY THE CENTRE OF HEALTHY AUTONOMY

“Love... what is it, and what is 'healthy' love? Am I capable of loving? How do we know we can love? Can we receive love? What is 'falling in love? How can we understand this primary and primal emotion?

Love infuses our lives and our experiences as much as food and sleep... it is a basic need, and yet for many of us it is also extremely troublesome. We may 'love' inappropriately, be constantly attracted to people who we know are not good for us, continually get ourselves into sticky 'loving' situations, and... also... know that in some way we are constantly looking for a love that we didn't get at the beginning of our lives.

And sex... what is that, and, again, what is 'healthy' sex? Of course we know that sex is about procreation, having babies, perpetuating the species, but our lives seem to be dominated by sex and our sexuality and, for some, our gender. We seem to be a society obsessed with sex and sexuality: getting sex, managing our sexual desires, suffering because of sex... feeling inadequate and finding that often our sexual encounters are not satisfying but confusing.

Do I define myself as hetero, gay, bi, trans? What do these 'categories' mean to me? Most of our advertising uses sex to sell us things... Sex as a commodity. How do we feel about that? And... what is the relationship between love and sex?... Are we naturally monogomous, i.e willing to commit to only having sex with one partner for the rest of our lives? And many more questions arise.

And then the subject of Relationship... are my relationships healthy or painful, loving or torturing, satisfying or a constant source of confusion, despair and hopelessness.”

Vivian Broughton

These are big topics, and our ability to function well in relation to these issues in Vivian’s view goes right back to the issue of traumatisation, and our experiences of our first relationship... that with our mother and then our father. It is from this earliest time in our life that we gain a sense of our identity, and the identity that is possible from this time then defines our relationship with these issues. Our biography is a biography of the influence of trauma.

What to expect?

This workshop is intended to open up these topics and find some kind of clarity. You will work with the Intention Method as a means of personal exploration of some of these issues, and there will be time for discussion and sharing.

There are 8 guaranteed working places on these workshops, and if there is time after that there will be a ballot for further opportunities to do a personal exploration. If participants take up this opportunity they will be required to pay the extra £80.

Please be aware that these workshops may involve emotional experiences as the underlying topic is the exploration of personal trauma.

If you are new to this work you might like to read some of the posts on Vivian’s blog, a good starting book is Becoming Your True Self which she wrote for her clients.

You can find out more information about Vivian here.

Date: Saturday 6th October at 09:30am - Sunday 7th October 5.30pm

Location: Centre for Healthy Autonomy, 5 Commerce Road, Brentford Lock, London, TW8 8LE

Investment: £115 for attendant place / £195 for a working place (guarantees that you will be able to make a personal exploration using the Intention Method)
