The leading pioneer of floatation therapy

Like yoga and meditation before it, floating has a long and proud tradition of helping its practitioners live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives. But unlike these more established practices, floating has remained relatively unknown in the mainstream – until now.

So what is floating?

Floatation therapy is the practice of lying back effortlessly in an i-sopod floatation tanks and drifting into a blissful, deep, meditative state that rejuvenates and revives your mind and body.

Here comes the technical bit!

Also known as floatation & float therapy, the floatation experience is delivered through a super-saturated Epsom-salt solution, 25cm deep and containing 525kg of magnesium rich Epsom-salts.

The solution is heated to skin temperature (35.0°C) and the environment in the tank is controlled so that the air is also skin temperature. Once you are settled, it is impossible to tell which parts of your body are in the water and which are not.

This creates an environment similar to that of the Dead Sea but without the sensation of temperature or movement, which lets you float effortlessly on the surface of the water, enjoying a feeling of total freedom & weightlessness!

Practitioners have been reporting the benefits of floating anecdotally for decades, but it’s only in the last ten years that scientists have been able to quantify them with robust, empirical studies. Research shows that that floating significantly reduces activity in the part of the brain known as the amygdala, which controls our innate fight or flight response to real or perceived threats.

This in turn helps to reduce the production of cortisol, also known as the stress hormone – high levels of which have been linked to a host of health issues, including weight gain, heart attacks and depression.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

When you engage in floatation, or 'float', you spend 60 minutes floating effortlessly in a pod of warm water (35 degrees C) that is saturated with Epsom salt. There is a lovely blue light inside of the pod which you can leave on if you prefer to. You'll also have 10 minutes of music at the beginning to help you drift into your journey, and 5 minutes at the end to let you know when the session is ending.

Investment: Single float £42.50 (after 15% off)

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

The mental and cognitive benefits include reducing stress and anxiety, improving focus and concentration, and enhancing creativity and idea generation. You'll also experience the physical benefits (largely brought on by the Magnesium from the Epsom salt, and the zero-gravity environment) including soothing aches and tension in muscles and joints, recovering from injuries, and smoothing and nourishing your skin.

As with any wellness practice (e.g., yoga, meditation) - the benefits are cumulative. The more you do it, the more naturally and deeply you are able to go into the experience, and with a regular practice, the effects become quite profound
