DIGITAL DETOX: UNPLUG & RECONNECT WITH MINDFULNESS

DIGITAL DETOX: UNPLUG & RECONNECT WITH MINDFULNESS

Digital Detox.jpg

HOSTED BY THE MINDFULNESS PROJECT

We live in an age of “always on”.

The ability to connect 24/7 with work, friends and family can be really positive – but can also leave us feeling distracted or overwhelmed. We may feel that we never really stop work, or that we need to check our social media constantly. We may sense that often we are not truly present, that perhaps we aren’t listening deeply to others, and are instead substituting or diluting real opportunities for connection with digital distraction.

Take a day off - and offline - to learn how mindfulness can help us regain control of the automatic habits of checking our phones, being drawn into emails and social media or surfing the net.

What to expect?

This one-day workshop will combine mindfulness theory and practice with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques supported by the research on habit formation and change. Through a combination of explanation, discussion, group work, reflection and practical exercises the workshop will:

  • Investigate our relationship with our devices and gain understanding into our tendency to develop unhelpful habits.

  • Review the research into the effects of digital technology and the science of habit formation and addiction.

  • Look at how mindfulness can help us develop a healthier relationship with our devices. Explore mindfulness and movement practices that help support us in working with habits and behaviour change.

  • Clarify your values and identify goals that you can work towards beyond the workshop.

It will be a day to actually practice being away from your devices while also learning simple take-away practices that can help keep you grounded in the present and surf the urges for constant connectivity. It might seem counterintuitive, but through regular practice, we can become more productive and at the same time reduce our stress levels. This in turn will feed the motivation to regularly dedicate time and space to be offline and away from our devices to reconnect with what matters.

No previous experience of mindfulness is needed. The workshop is designed for people who are new to mindfulness as well as those who have an established practice.

About Your Coach Tina Stallard

Tina is a qualified Breathworks mindfulness teacher. She follows the Good Practice Guidelines for teaching mindfulness-based courses as laid out by the UK Network for Mindfulness Teachers. She has been meditating for more than 12 years, and is regularly attending training, meditation retreats and courses. Tina is also a fully accredited British Wheel of Yoga teacher and has been practising yoga for more than 25 years.

SELF-COMPASSION WORKSHOP
Dec

10:00 AM10:00

SELF-COMPASSION WORKSHOP

Self Compassion Workshop.jpg

HOSTED BY THE MINDFULNESS PROJECT

This introductory workshop will help you learn the skills of self compassion so you can respond to difficult times in your life with kindness and care.

Self-compassion is the heart of mindfulness and self-compassion skills help us be kind and caring toward ourselves rather than being critical and judgemental. It allows us feel connected to others when we suffer, rather than feeling isolated and alone. Unlike self-esteem, the good feelings of self-compassion do not depend on being special and better than other people; instead, they come from caring about ourselves and recognising that we all go through difficult times and it’s only human to get distressed on occasion.

 You will learn how to:

  • Practice self-compassion and kindness in your daily life

  • Decrease stress and anxiety

  • Motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism

  • Handle difficult emotions with greater ease

  • Support yourself during those times when you suffer, fail, or feel inadequate.

  • Learn how to appreciate yourself

A large and growing body of research, much of it conducted by Dr. Neff, suggests that self-compassion reduces anxiety and depression, enables us to develop healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and more satisfying personal relationships, makes us more resilient in the face of challenges, and improves overall wellbeing.

No prior mindfulness experience or knowledge required.

About Your Teacher Rosemary

Rosemary has been a counsellor and psychotherapist for over 20 years, and works in organisations as a leadership facilitator, executive coach and mindfulness trainer. She trained in Bangor University as a mindfulness teacher in 2008, and in Mindful Self-Compassion in 2014. Rosemary practices mindfulness and adheres to the mindfulness teacher good practice guidelines. Her particular interest is in helping people suffering from low moods, stress, anxiety and health conditions to develop resilience and wellbeing. She teaches to both individuals and groups.

HOSTED BY FONTANNA ANZONETTA KENNEDY

Would you like reduced stress, a stronger immune system, increased fitness, mind/body connection, inner peace, resilience, authenticity, empowerment, optimism?

Laughter Yoga is guaranteed hours of pure joy. 1000's of people are enjoying Laughter Yoga all over the world as it meets so many of our needs and desires.

What to expect?

Fontanna wants to start this Laughter Yoga Group to bring more joy and laughter into her life and provide a space for others who have the same desire.

“As an Author, Artist and Empath I can tend to isolate myself sometimes, so this is a way of meeting my need for connection and providing a space for friendship, sharing and freedom to be experienced. I love Laughter Yoga because usually we are leaving our experience of fun up to chance; relying on comedies, humor, jokes, alcohol etc to lose our inhibitions and trigger the happy hormones. With laughter Yoga we simply invoke playfulness and engage in exercises for the love of joy, honoring our true nature and embracing our authenticity around others.”

What to expect?

Fontanna is very much open to suggestions and wants to value all wonderful ideas that surface throughout the class.

HOSTED BY POPUP PAINTING

PopUp Painting invites you to unleash your creativity – wine glass in one hand, paintbrush in the other! No experience needed.

What to expect?

Your event at The Roundhouse will be themed around their Christmas Pop Art Penguin by Annie Dalton!

Pop Art took inspiration from popular and commercial culture of the time so expect to hear lots of classic songs from the 1960s on their playlist!

Since 2013 their mission has been to bring art out of the classroom and gallery and into the places people meet on an every day basis.

You’ll be guided step by step by a practicing artist, while you drink, paint and create your way to becoming an artist for the night!

Your experience will include:

  • All art supplies – including paint, brushes, apron

  • Guidance from a qualified and practicing artist (but feel free to go off-piste!)

  • Drinks are available for purchase from the bar

  • A themed playlist to immerse you in your experience

  • A guaranteed like on Instagram if you share your pics with #popuppainting!
