We take a look at what’s coming up for the month ahead. From the latest cultural goings-on and launches to inspiring talks and networking opportunities not to be missed. Here is a mix of events we’ve discovered, some of Merit’s own events, and some hosted by friends of the club. With International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March, Mothers’ Day on Sunday 31st March, and the clocks going forward at the end of the month, March brings the promise of Spring and yes there’s lots to celebrate.
The Mindful Living Show

The Mindful Living Show is giving guests a unique opportunity to reflect, experience and learn more about mindfulness, meditation and sleep, with over 100 seminars and experiential sessions covering health and wellbeing subjects from mindful movement to creativity, from sleep issues to mental health, from empowerment to creativity, from spiritual insight to self-compassion, from relationships to parenting, from waking up well to mindful nutrition - from leaders in the world of health and wellbeing.
Hear from comedian and committed meditator Russell Brand, world-renowned teacher Sharon Salzberg, TV Personality, Author & Astrologer Russell Grant; Vidyamala Burch - Teacher, Author and Co-Founder of Breathworks, Head of Wellbeing and Sustainable Learning at Google Ruchika Sikri and renowned sleep experts Dr Nerina Ramlakhan and Dr Chris Idzikowski.
Experience their Creative Calm Space, Active Meditation Space, and Taster Zone, giving you the opportunity to enjoy group meditation and hands-on activities with their exhibitors; and explore an array of stands throughout the show in their Zen Market.

Self Love Sunday is offering you an afternoon to make time completely for yourself, in order to unplug from the hectic nature of life and discover the building blocks for self-care. Loving yourself is the best thing you can ever do for yourself, so join Talya from Motherhood: The Real Deal & Aliya of Hayya Health for three blissful hours of self love at the Winchester Room at The Turk's Head, St Margaret's and immerse yourself in all things feel good. Featuring a self love panel, free treatments and relaxation therapies, holistic health and wellbeing tips and lots more to leave you feeling loved and recharged.
Self Love Sunday will include a Q&A panel, where Aliya, Talia and Katya will be discussing how best to manage strees.
You will also have the chance to try out Laughter Yoga and Hand Healing, and be treated to a massage, hair styling session, make-up tutorial and nail-care experience.

The Other Art Fair is the UK's leading artist fair presented by Saatchi Art, showcasing the work of the very best in emerging art to art lovers of all experiences.
On 14th - 17th March 2019 the fair returns to Shoreditch's The Old Truman Brewery, presenting 140 talented emerging artists alongside a unique and immersive features programme.
Navigating the Art World as a Woman (Merit Members Access)

Join the Allbright Club for an intimate conversation between artist Anna Liber Lewis, curator and director of The Ingram Collection, Jo Baring, Head Curator of Elephant West, Becca Pelly-Fry and AllBright Curator, Beth Greenacre.
Female artists remain under-represented in the art world despite outnumbering men studying in art school; London’s major institutions and commercial galleries remain the least likely to hold solo shows by female artists; in 2017 just 22% of solo shows presented by major London non-commercial galleries were by women artists, a decrease since 2016. Beyond the statistics, women artists, curators and professionals face unique challenges.
Join the Allbright Club for an intimate and honest conversation about being a woman in the art world and how one creates strength through collaboration and friendship.
Lemonade Re:made - An Orchestral Rendition of Beyonce at XOYO
When: Tuesday 26th March, 7.00pm - 10.00pm

This adventurous show combines an orchestral performance from live musicians with immersive live visuals from Beyonce's aesthetic album. Taking home Grammys for ‘Best Urban Contemporary Album’, and ‘Best Music Video’, Lemonade was launched with a full length feature film which aired on HBO to rave reviews. It features artists from Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd to James Blake and Jack White, with figures such as Serena Williams accompanying in the film. Blurring R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop & Blues, her songs create a narrative on the experience of being female and Black, casting Beyonce as Oshun, the Yoruba goddess of fertility and sensuality.
Talentbanq presents New Music Mondays at The Ned

Our friends at Talentbanq are presenting four of the most exciting independent musicians in the UK - Louise Golbey, JJ Rosa, Steve Young UK, and Jocee - at the Ned London; a venue that always promises a fun night out.

Balham Spring Market

SoLo Craft Fair are starting off their fourth year in the glorious Balham Bowls Club.
Join them in the vintage ballroom and discover some of the best independent businesses selling their handcrafted wares. If you’re looking for a new piece of art for your home, a new outfit for the kids, or that perfect gift for a loved one then they promise to have you covered, with so many unique traders.
Alongside the wonderful stalls they will also have a creative workshop you can get involved with and the opportunity to learn a new skill.
A great way to show some support for local independent businesses!
Kitchen Garden Planning for Spring / Summer

Join Petersham Nurseries for an introduction and demonstration on how to create a flourishing kitchen garden with their expert horticulturists. Learn everything you need to know about establishing and maintaining a rewarding, healthy and bountiful plot. As well as discussing how to plan your plot, soil preparation and successful sowing, this workshop also includes a tour of Petersham House kitchen garden.
#MarchForWomen with Care International

Join Care International for their #March4Women International Women’s Day event in London’s Westminster Central Hall - an uplifting afternoon of speeches, entertainment, solidarity and action suitable for the whole family in a venue steeped in history where suffragettes 100 years ago used to hold their rallies. Here they will be asking you to join them in calling for a worldwide treaty to protect women everywhere from violence and harassment in the workplace.
Hear from inspirational speakers including, Annie Lennox, David Tennant and Helen Pankhurst, as well as gender equality champions who have challenged the law to change the world: lawyer and women's rights activist, Shola Mos-Shogbamimu; FGM campaigner, Leyla Hussein, Gina Martin, the activist who made upskirting illegal; and Lady Brenda Hale, the first woman President of the UK Supreme Court, as well as performances from Beverley Knight, Bond Quartet, Urban Voices Collective and the legendary composer David Arnold.
Guardian Live: The Guilty Feminist International Women’s Day Special

International Women’s Day are delighted to announce a very special Guilty Feminist to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Join host Deborah Frances-White and guests as they take over the Barbican for the live version of everyone’s favourite podcast, in association with The Guardian.
Since its launch in December 2015, The Guilty Feminist has become a podcasting phenomenon with over 50 million downloads. Every week comedian Deborah Frances-White and her guests discuss their noble goals as feminists while confessing their insecurities and paradoxes that undermine them.
Guests have included top comedians such as Sarah Millican, Sara Pascoe, Aparna Nancherla, Andi Osho, Sindhu Vee and Hannah Gadsby, as well as TV and movie stars such as Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Lolly Adefope, Roisin Conaty, Susan Wokoma, Emma Thompson, Gemma Arterton and Sharon Horgan - plus activists, experts, writers, MPs, campaigners, novelists and scientists.

Merit Club Social

If you are an entrepreneur, influencer, blogger, freelancer or just a lone soldier trying to leave your mark on the world, we know how lonely it can get working on your own! Which is why we decided to start this inspiring, supportive, and informative working group.
Come and join us, be it just popping in for a coffee, or sitting with us for the whole day. Let's build a community where you can work on your solo projects, while also having the chance to chat with like-minded women who are in the same boat as you. Sharing a space together with friendly faces, a proactive attitude and similar mindsets has got to help create focus, creativity and productivity, no? As a collective, there's no doubt we'll all have a varied skill set and all kinds of different expertise, so what better way to network and maybe even ask for new ideas!
We will start the day at 11am and finish at around 4pm. There will also be a speaker talk (to be announced).
